DreamHack Masters Spring 2021: First Predictions

It seemed that with ESL Pro League Season 13 and BLAST Premier Spring Showdown in April, there would be enough top CS: GO action games. But for fans of CS: GO esports this month is special, because in April there are not one or two, but three Tier 1 competitions, the third of which is DreamHack Masters Spring 2021.

From April 29 to May 9, 16 teams will compete for $ 250,000 and ESL Pro Tour points. The CIS is represented at the championship by Natus Vincere, Virtus.pro, Gambit Esports, and Team Spirit.

DreamHack Masters 2021

DreamHack Masters is a tournament series founded by DreamHack in 2016. Masters series tournaments draw fans from all over the world in the largest esports arenas, where the best teams compete for the title and a solid prize pool.

In the first stage, the organizers divided the teams into two groups of GSL format with a double-elimination bracket. First-round matches — up to one victory, the rest — up to two. The best team from each group gets a slot in the playoff semifinals, and the teams from the second and third places — in the quarterfinals. In the second stage of DreamHack Masters Spring 2021, the clubs will compete in the single-elimination bracket. The confrontation will be arranged up to two victories, the grand final — up to three.

Schedule

GSL format (double-elimination)

  • Each group has eight teams;
  • Starting matches «best-of-1»;
  • All subsequent matches are «best-of-3».

The top three teams from each group advance to the playoffs

  • Group winners advance to the semifinals;
  • Second places advance to the quarterfinals with the highest seeding;
  • Third places advance to the lowest seed quarterfinals.

Playoffs: May 2-9

  • Single-elimination bracket;
  • Quarter-finals and semifinals «best-of-3»;
  • Grand final «best-of-5».

Are there any favorites this time? Teams like Gambit Esports, Virtus.pro, or recent ESL Pro League champions — Heroic, — will undoubtedly be in the running. Although, given the opponents Natus Vincere, Furia Esports, and Astralis, it means that the path to victory in this tournament will not be easy. After rising to the top of the HLTV rankings, Gambit Esports is even more of a threat to their rivals. As the Gambits rose to the top, they were seen as a sensation. Now that they are officially the best team on the planet, they are in much higher demand and the rivals treat the team in a completely different way.

Gambit Esports vs. NaVi

Gambit Esports and NaVi have qualified for the DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 playoffs. Alexander s1mple Kostylev shared his thoughts about the game against Virtus.pro and talked about the mindset for the upcoming battle with Gambit Esports:

«We did a great job at boot camp, so we'll be stronger than Gambit this time. Without a doubt, Gambit is the best team in the world at the moment. They've beaten everyone, won all the recent tournaments, and are showing a great game».

What remains for NaVi is to believe in the best and train even more. Gambit Esports are at the top of the world and realizing that it is good here, they just won't give up. Moreover, their style of play is still unpredictable and surprising, take at least their game with G2 at current DreamHack.

The Gambits beat the Navi in Katowice, and in the group stage of ESL Pro League Season 13, so NaVi needs to be at their best. To win the game with Gambits, they need to surpass themselves at their best matches.

You can watch the tournament on the ESL CS:GO Twitch. The playoffs will start on May 7 and the grand final is scheduled for May 9 (starting at 16:00 CEST).
