DreamHack Masters Spring 2021: Preshow Thoughts
There can be only one. Already this weekend, May 7-9, we will closely follow the Dreamhack Spring 2021 CS:GO playoffs. G2, Astralis, NAVI, Furia, Gambit, and Heroic will compete for the prize place and $100,000.
In the first round of the playoffs, Natus Vincere team will face FURIA Esports; G2 Esports will play against Astralis. Heroic and Gambit Esports will start the final stage with the semifinals.
Over the past week, sixteen teams fought each other, and only six of them remained in the competition. Two teams from the CIS left the group stage of DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 — Team Spirit dropped to 9th-12th place, and Virtus.pro ended up in 7th-8th place, losing to G2 Esports in the playoffs.
G2 Esports vs. Astralis
In the second round of the Upper bracket, G2 lost to the Gambits, so in the Lower bracket, they had to try to beat Virtus.pro, thus guaranteeing themselves a position in the quarterfinals. Astralis managed to show good results before losing to Heroic in the third round of the Upper brackets. G2 will need to do their best if they want to defeat the Danish team that had the advantage in previous encounters.
Furia Esports vs. Natus Vincere
BIG's victory sent Furia to the Lower bracket. However, the Brazilian team did not give up and after winning over Complexity and Team Vitality made it to the quarterfinals. Furia will compete with NAVI, who only lost to Gambit in the last round. Finally, s1mple will have a chance to recoup the defeat at the ESL Pro League Season 13 group stage.
Gambits Esports are the true Alpha of Dreamhack Spring 2021. Since Katowice, they have been in a dominant position and have their hand on the pulse. The quarter-finals will decide which team they will meet on their way to the award and much more glory. Generally speaking, we can even assume that after defeating NAVI 2-1 at Dust 2, Overpass, and Mirage, Gambits might be the first-place favorites for this big game as well.
Heroic is on fire. In recent tournaments, they proved themselves more than worthy — their game and skills only got better. The recent 2:0 whitewash win over Astralis on Nuke and Inferno, only confirms that Danish esports players do not plan to stop there and continue to actively hunt for new trophies after their recent decisive victory in the ESL Pro League Season 13 Grand Final (by the way over the aforementioned Gambit Esports).
This year, instead of the usual POV broadcasts with webcams of esports players, viewers will be able to watch the DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 playoffs from the perspective of each of the ten players, as part of an experiment.
The organizers also announced the decision to turn off the highlighting of opponents so that the viewer has a better idea of the information based on which the player is taking action.
Additional streams will take place on selected Twitch channels. You can select a live stream with a view from a specific player on a special page on the official DreamHack website.
