Resurgence Valorant roster banned by Riot Games for match-fixing
Riot Games suspended professional Valorant players Malcolm «Fermsg» Chang and Ryan «Dreamycsgo» Tan for 36 months from the Valorant Champions Tour for manipulating the outcome of a match.
The former Resurgence roster will receive smaller fines «depending on their level of guilt and involvement in cooperating with the investigation».
Such measures were taken by Riot Games after investigating the information about the fake match of Resurgence against BlackBird Ignis during the VALORANT Ignition Series on September 22, 2020.
«Riot’s investigation found that Malcolm "Germsg" Chung and Ryan "Dreamycsgo’"Tan coordinated to bet against their own team, Resurgence», — Riot Games said in a statement. «Germsg initiated the scheme and Dreamycsgo provided the capital. Germsg then informed the rest of the Resurgence roster about his bet».
The other team members were reluctant to take part in the fraud. As a result, Resurgence lost 0: 2. Germsg offered to split the winnings among all members of the squad, but the rest of the team refused.
According to a post on the Riot Games blog, the other members of the disbanded team will receive the following fines:
- Justin «Boplek» Wong Chong Cheng and Sengdala «Jabtheboy» Jamnalong will be suspended from VCT for 1 year;
- Du Min «Mortdecai» Yeo and Benedict «Benaf» Tan will be suspended from VCT for 6 months.
