The International 10 will be held without spectators

New week — bad news. Four days before the International 10 Valve announced that event will be held without spectators in the stands.

Players and fans hoped until the end that the championship would be held without restrictions, but due to the increase in cases of a COVID disease in Romania and the introduction of new local restrictions in Bucharest, The International 2021 will be held without spectators.

We have been carefully evaluating the continued rise of Covid rates in Romania, as well as the resulting introduction of new local restrictions in Bucharest. To ensure the safety of all players, talent, and production staff participating in the event, we have decided to refund all ticket sales for The International 2021.

We wanted nothing more than to welcome fans live to the event, but we can no longer do so in a way that allows us to prioritize the health and well-being of both audience members and participants. Those who purchased tickets will be issued a full refund automatically.

The International 2021 will begin as planned on October 7, and we look forward to welcoming the best Dota teams in the world to the stage and sharing the experience online with millions of fans around the world.

Another blow to International 10 — what is it: an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances or the organizers' shortsightedness? The tournament was originally supposed to take place in August in Sweden, but due to the epidemiological situation, it was moved to Romania to potentially attract a live audience. At the time of the decision to move the event to Bucharest, the number of COVID cases in Romania was low, but they have continued to rise since the beginning of September.

The community reaction was predictable:

But not all fans are negative. For example, one reddit user is very positive and urged others not to lose heart:

Just because there is no crowd doesn’t mean TI should be cancelled. Animajor was maybe best major ever and guess what?

No crowd. It was epic. TI will be epic even without the crowd, I know people are mad but we need to be positive for an epic TI!!

The International 10 will be held from October 7 to 17 in Bucharest, Romania. The prize pool of the event is $40 million.
